Bernie Sanders and Jane O’Meara – Together Since 1988
Jane O’Meara and Bernie Sanders, both Brooklyn natives, have a love story as unique as it is endearing. Although they grew up just blocks apart, their paths never crossed until much later in life. She was first married to her high school sweetheart but life had other plans and that ended in divorce.
It was in 1981 during Bernie’s first campaign for mayor that Jane’s journey with him began. They met during a meeting where Jane started asking the tough questions. Impressed by his ideas and sincerity, she fell in love with both him and his vision for a better future. They eventually married in 1988.
