Paul David Hewson is a singer-songwriter, human rights activist, philanthropist, and businessman who goes by the stage name Bono. He is best recognized for being the lead singer and primary lyricist for the rock band U2.

His stage name was inspired by his childhood nickname “Bono Vox,” which was derived from the Latin word “Bonavox,” which means “excellent voice.” With Bono at the helm, U2 became one of the few bands in history to achieve four straight chart-topping albums. In the animated musical film “Sing 2,” Bono voiced the lion rock legend Clay Calloway in 2021.
