Story behind the lyrics: “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” is a glimpse of Taylor dealing with the roller derby of emotions: the silly arguments, the dramatic exits, and then that sweet, sweet solitude with nothing but an indie record for company (which, by the way, is way cooler than hers, or so he thinks!) The thought of writing this song struck her when a common acquaintance of Jake and Taylor hinted at the couple getting back together. So, she decided to make it clear that she was never, ever, ever getting back together with him!
