A shallow breath came, followed by another, and the puppy stirred back into motion.
Lola settled down again and gathered all 12 puppies close to her body. They pressed in, nursing, their movements slowing. Dr. Greene watched from a step back, unsettled by details he could not yet explain. The range of colors felt unusual, and his eyes kept returning to the silver pup.
