Steve Rubell, Jack Dushey, Ian Schrager, the owners of Studio 54, hired several people to design the club’s dance floor and lighting system in early 1977, with renovations including new mirrors and vinyl platforms. Steve noted that most of the club’s patrons were regular public members, not celebrities, who came primarily to cut a rag.
As the nightclub opened its doors, it ushered in an era where shaking a leg was a spontaneous celebration, not a staged performance for social media.
