Studio 54’s Secret Album: 30 Rare Photos from Disco’s Golden Age

The Beginning Of Rod and Tina’s Professional Relationship

Studio 54, having reopened in 1981 under new ownership following its brief closure in 1980, started to welcome celebrities again. In 1981, Rod Stewart and Tina Turner made a grand entry at the club. Rod, renowned for his magnetic stage presence, even made a playful statement wearing a blonde wig, mirroring Tina’s dynamic hairstyle.

Tina, a powerhouse of talent, had been rebuilding her career post her divorce from Ike Turner, performing in various venues and collaborations. She had received rave reviews for performing “Hot Legs” with the pop legend at “Saturday Night Live.” Their professional relationship later culminated in their hit duet “It Takes Two” in 1990.
