The Rollercoaster Life of Matthew Perry: Fame, Struggle, and Resilience

Addiction and Recovery

Matthew’s battle with substance abuse and confusion eventually became overwhelming. In 1997, the actor entered rehab for the first time seeking help and spent 28 days in a Minnesota facility. But this was just the beginning of his struggle. Three years later, his alcohol abuse led to a life-threatening situation.

In 2000, he was hospitalized with severe pancreatitis, a dangerous and potentially fatal condition caused by excessive drinking. Despite the severity of his illness, Matthew found it hard to break free from his destructive habits. He continued to drink even after leaving the hospital, a testament to the deep hold his addiction had on him.
