Have you ever assumed that Iowa is flat? If so, think again. According to recent research conducted by the University of Kansas, Iowa doesn’t even make the top 10 list of the flattest states in America. The study utilized a “geomorphometric analysis” of 48 states and Washington, D.C., measuring the rise of land at the horizon.
While Iowa is not on the top 10 list, neighboring states like Illinois and Minnesota rank second and fifth respectively. This new study found that many elevated areas in Iowa may come as a surprise to some. So, if you thought Iowa was just a flat state, it’s time to reconsider.
